Is It Time To Slow Down?

In the pioneer days a housewife was the rule, men would go out all day and work the farm and the women in the home were responsible for the duties in the home such as making all the meals, meal clean up, cleaning the home, washing the linens, making the beds…

Today the chores of running a home can be combined with a regular job outside of the home as well and this can become an extreme stressor in the life of a woman.

With today’s economy many parents are place to the test of making ends meet, and with mom not just a housewife anymore the daily routine of everyday chores is easily passed on to the children or ignored.

When times get tough and money is in small supply, there is help: Parents can talk with an health advocate at Social Service Coordinators who will direct you to over 6,000 different public and private organizations where discounted and sometimes free services are available.

Farmers ate what they harvested, we eat what we can pick up from a window on our way to somewhere, and it better be quick or our heart rate increases and we are mad. Meanwhile we chomp down our processed, stout, food and wonder why we are getting stout and don’t feel so fantastic. SLOW DOWN- take the extra few minutes to gather some healthy foods and sit down as a family. If we don’t slow down our bodies will make us at some point with health problems.

If there is a miracle today it would have to be medicine. There is a catch- many are popping the pills to stay skinny because they don’t have the time to visit they gym- and don’t forget about the quick food. Many are also popping pills to stay cool, fight depression, relax nerves, and give them more energy. All this medication comes at a cost to your health and pocket book. We need to slow down- I’m not saying become a farmer because their life is not simple, but we do need to take a step back and “smell the roses”.

Slow down is not mentioned by me alone, medical professional, the news, our children need the pace to silent down. Does your family need all these extra activities? Can you cut out going to dinner and save a small on the pocket book- where else could your family cut out to slow down?

If you really want to make some changes then it is time to sit down with everyone that keeps your schedule hopping and make some changes. Having everyone involved is a fantastic thought because then you have a better commitment from everyone.

Calendars, chalk boards, cork boards are all a fantastic avenue for posting upcoming events and making sure everyone know what the week’s schedule is and how things should run- becoming organized might take a small time at first, but in the end it will save allot of time.

Some of the most rewarding times for farmers were the sunrises the sunsets, the birth of a new animal, the joy of reaping a excellent harvest. Do we find joy in our families, are we taking the time to show our kids the stars, have they gotten up early enough to see a sunrise- the joys in this life can be a simple as that.

If you don’t make the time for your life to slow down, your body will not de-stress but shut down with medical problems and you will not have a choice.

Would we go back to the pioneer days- probably not, but every once in a while I bet we all long for the simpler life.
